Literature Text

Hunny was never very fond of shy people. While he didn’t have anything against them, he preferred people who could openly admit their feelings. But there was one exception. She was a simple girl – pretty, smart, good lineage and riches – all you would need to qualify as one of Ouran’s students. She was just shy, and he couldn’t understand why Mori seemed so infatuated with her. He saw the small glances he would send her way, the small smiles he got when he heard her laugh occasionally. She was often alone – not a social butterfly. Maybe that was why Mori liked her, because she was so simple. And he liked simple things.

Hunny took a few more weeks to observe you before he started piecing together the answer to the mystery that was Mori’s choice in women. You were a big fan of history much like Mori was.  You were almost always reading, and your choice in literature was almost always historical fiction and non-fiction. You loved animals like Mori did as well. And you were really sweet. He was even sure that you had a thing for Mori. You were just shy. And for once Hunny was willing to tolerate it because you were still a really good person.

“A date for Mori?” Tamaki asked while looking down at the oldest member of the host club. Hunny nodded eagerly, becoming somewhat giddy at the thought of it.

“She’s too shy to make a move, and Mori’s not saying anything for some reason,” Hunny explained. Tamaki’s eyes sparkled as his inner self-proclaimed protector of love and justice (cough-Tamaki-is-sailor-moon-cough) shined through. He whole-heartedly agreed to help unite Mori with who could very well be his true love – not without an eye roll from the rest of the host club. Only Tamaki believed that love could blossom inexplicably out of thin air.

You received a dark blue rose and a note written in beautiful calligraphy asking you to come to the center of the rose garden. It was for a beautiful evening of romance beneath the stars and surrounded by the beauty of the roses and the soft glow of candle light while dining on the finest of dishes and sipping the loveliest of drinks. The note was signed by Takashi Morinozuka.

Your hands shook as you read the signature at the bottom. Be still your rapidly beating heart. You pressed the note to your chest in an effort calm your heart rate, but the more you thought about it, the more your heart beat seemed to quicken. You might faint. It was true you had been harboring feelings for the gentle giant, but you had never thought that he would ever think to reciprocate your feelings. You had never even imagined it in your wildest dreams.

Mori knew the host club was up to something. And it probably involved him. He figured as much because they wouldn’t tell him what it was they were up to – not that he had asked, but they would’ve said something at least. Even Hunny wouldn’t say anything, just told him not to worry about it. It was finally the day of that they finally said they had set him up on a date in the garden. They didn’t want to give him enough time to back out of it. If he wanted out, he’d have to go to the date, entertain his guest, and humbly decline like a gentleman and representative of the host club and his family name.

He walked into the center of the garden, expecting one of the girls who had recently confessed to him. He’d gently declined as he had always done in the past, but they could sometimes be quite persistent. But what he saw was not one of the other girls. It was none other than simple and sweet you walking in through the entrance opposite the one he had come through, looking stunning in your simple __f/c__ silk dress and rhinestone studded flats. You didn’t have any make up on, but you never did, and Mori liked your natural beauty which was only brought out by the soft candlelight and the rose petals billowing gently past you. You smiled as best you could, trying not to let your nervousness show through. Honestly, you had just barely managed to get your knees to stop shaking and were hyperventilating a few minutes before you arrived.

He approached you with a soft smile on his face and reached up to pull one of the soft petals from your hair. You turned bright red at the close contact. A rare blush dusted his cheeks lightly at your cute facial expression. He held out a hand for you and you took it. He led you to the table and pulled out your chair for you, ever the gentleman.

The air wasn’t filled with chatter, just small conversation, but the two of you were perfectly content with it as you as the two of you dined on lobster tail with a New England-style cracker and crabmeat stuffing served with fresh lemon wedges and dinner rolls. He made you laugh with a few stories of the host clubs many antics. And you talked about history – seeing as how you were both fond of it. The silences weren’t uncomfortable, and by the end of the evening, you felt a little less shy. Confident even.
Mori was thoroughly enjoying himself. You were even more charming than from what he could gather from your limited social interactions that he’d observed from afar. And Mori was even more fascinating than just from what you’d heard about him from gossiping girls that had been requesting him in the host club.

“Mori-san,” you said while going into a slight bow, “I would like to do this again if it’s okay with you,” you said at the end of your date.

“Takashi.”

“Huh?” you asked confusedly as you looked up at him with a slight tilt of the head.

“As my girlfriend, I would want you to call me Takashi. That is, if you’ll have me,” he said as he kneeled down on one knee and held your hand. Your face felt like it was on fire, but you smiled anyway.

“I would love that,” you whispered. He smiled before bringing you into a soft kiss. The host club looked on from their hiding place, watching the love bloom right before their eyes. Maybe Tamaki wasn’t so naïve or crazy. Maybe love could rapidly blossom out of thin air.
